Warburtons Wakefield

2004- 2008 Warburtons Bakery, Tuscany Park, Wakefield UK

Higgs Young Architects designed a  22,000m2 bakery for Warburtons on a 4 hectare site at Tuscany Park, Wakefield. The first phase was completed in 2005 and second phase in 2008. The completed bakery comprise 14,000m2 bakery plant, raw materials and bunded tank storage, 6000 m2 despatch, 2,000m2 ancillary accommodation and offices.  Employing 450 staff, the high tech automated plant equipment produces 1.5 million bread products per week. Elevations of the ancillary accommodation were clad in brickwork and external works include service yards, car parking, gate house and perimeter fencing.  The design uses heat recovery from the bakery process to heat the warehouse and energy efficiency measures include metered energy management.
