International Competition 2007

The location of the library at the foot of observatory hill creates opportunity for the dramatic landscape to break into the grid urban street pattern. This landscape is visible but mostly inaccessible from street level, particularly in the vicinity of the existing library entrances. The design of the extension with a courtyard set into landscape slopes and with roof top gardens will extend the landscape hill down toward the street Odengatan.The vertical circulation within the new library will provide access to new and existing external gardens at all levels and allow visitors to access the observatory hill.
