Tomorrows Garden City

2007 RIBA competition selected entry Letchworth UK

Tomorrow’s Garden City will provide flexible housing suited to changing individual needs whilst tackling communal responsibilities to reduce carbon emissions, reduce and recycle waste and conserve water, thus enabling the vision of the garden city to be realised - enabling people to live in communities which are both closely integrated and in harmony with nature. Dwellings have a roof suitable for installation of solar thermal heating and photovoltaic panels. This would provide 1500kw/ h annum equivalent to 60% of energy for a typical house from a renewable supply. The 30 degree sloping roof is designed with aluminium standing seam and green sedum roof finish which is capable of being retrofitted with photovoltaic solar panels.
