Shortlisted medium density housing with varied house designs, orientated to both benefit from solar gains and create homes with front and back gardens within traditional street layouts. All the main living and bedrooms of the house are south facing opening onto external terraces and have large windows to benefit from passive solar heating and daylight.  External shutters are used to avoid overheating and heat loss at night. The rooms will be draught free to avoid heat loss in winter but can be well ventilated with opening windows in summer. can be achieved in

Sloping roofs over approximately 1/3 of the plan to be fitted with solar panels provide the future proofing for renewable energy  The space created by the slope of the roof provides additional mezzanine space for home working. The alternating roof slopes create a varied roof profile and mitigates overshadowing the rear gardens of the houses
